Public Housing Overview MISSION STATEMENT: The goal of the Troy Housing Authority is to provide drug and crime free, decent, safe and sanitary housing for eligible families and to promote homeownership opportunities, self-sufficiency and economic independence for residents. Under the Public Housing Program, the applicant must qualify as a family and be under the HUD prescribed income limits. The head of household must be 19 years of age or older or 18 years old and married. The applicant must pass comprehensive screening which includes background checks on criminal history, previous landlord references, other housing authorities, employers, social service agencies, court records and the like. The Troy Housing Authority determines the amount of rent based on the family's total income. Generally, the rent is 30% of the adjusted gross income. Once declared eligible and the family's name is called from the waiting list, the appropriate sized apartment is selected for the family. The Troy Housing Authority has five apartment complexes throughout the city. They are: Segars Street, Knox Homes, Murphree Park, Dunbar, and Hubbard.
